Dam from Hyderabad If you are searching for a brief journey from Hyderabad, the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam can be the perfect day trip. The main goal was getting out of the house after being stuck indoors for so long and seeing someplace different.

Travelling is something I love doing and if I was to win a lottery, that will be my number one priority. But let me come back to earth; the world has changed. People are adjusting to this new way of life where one can easily reuse a mask for three days straight because nobody cares anyway. During this time, many countries have loosened their covid-19 restrictions thus allowing travel activities to gradually resume. The reason why we have chosen to take a road trip during this Christmas is simply because it is safer than using congested public transport systems. Therefore, we settled on visiting the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam on that day.

What you need to know about Nagarjuna Sagar Dam:

Built across the Krishna River, the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam serves as the border between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It was established using modern techniques during the Green Revolution in India which involved both states. This dam not only holds the record for being the biggest masonry dam globally, but it is also important for agriculture as well as power generation systems that serve various parts of the country.

Our Day Trip to Nagarjuna Sagar Dam:

One hundred fifty kilometers away from Hyderabad is Nagarjuna sagar Dam’. This place was our target of the day. We wanted to leave early but it was not possible because in winter morning people become lazy. So at 8 am we started our journey with warm sunlight which was making us fresh while travelling on the road side which was filled with cotton trees. It was really beautiful scenery. By the way I took some pictures of mine which were touched by sun light along this way. Of course, shall I compare thee to a summers day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate.

After one and a half hours, we stopped at a rest area to eat our breakfast. A lot of people were having breakfast at the restaurant for travelers there but we had our own sandwiches which we had packed from home so we took them out and ate before we continued on with our trip. We got to Nagarjuna Sagar Dam at around 11:30 am and went straight to one of the viewpoints where we could see how big the dam really was. The next thing that we wanted to do was go for a boat ride in Down Park which is something that everyone should do when they visit Nagarjuna Sagar – it’s amazing! It’s 45 minutes long and the ferry takes you around; you get the most incredible views so make sure you go before they close at 1 pm.

Details on Ferry Ride That You Can't Overlook:

For an adult, the fare is Rs. 100 while a child will be charged at Rs. 70.

Parking can be found close to the pier and will only cost you Rs. 30.

All travelers are given life jackets

We had carried some food because we were hungry after riding on the boat.We unpacked our picnic baskets and started eating at around 3 pm. Since we had accomplished what we wanted by this time which was resting and re-energizing ourselves, we chose to return home without visiting any other place as we had planned before leaving that morning so we took it slowly.

If one wants to lengthen their stay at Nagarjuna Sagar:

Though we turned it into a one day visit, one can spend more days at this location. The ideal time to see this dam in particular is during the winter months, from September to January. The monsoon season with open dam gates also provides a great view. However, the hot weather of summer may not be very comfortable for tourists. A few things to do while in this area is to go to the Nagarjuna Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary or Ethipothala Waterfalls which are not far away. You may also wish to visit NagarjunaKonda among other attractions within the vicinity.

It is ideal to visit during the winter season which is from September to January. It also provides a spectacular view when the dam is open during the monsoon. However, the site can be very uncomfortable for the visitors in summer with scorching temperatures.

Getting There:

Majar cities have good road network connections with Nagarjuna Sagara. You can use your car from Hyderabad which is the best mode of transportation, government and private buses are also available. The closest train station would be Macherla Railway Station at about 24 km, while the nearest airport is located in Hyderabad city limits.

In order to have an amazing experience, consider visiting Hyderabad either before or after your journey because it is endowed with many attractions. The city is famous for its rich history and lively culture. Some of the must-see sites in this place include Charminar, Golconda Fort, and Ramoji Film City.
